We know adolescents, so we know how overwhelming all the changes that occur during seventh and eighth grades can be. Gilmour Academy Middle School students are transitioned gradually from the Lower School, and that extra layer of transitional support is carried through to the start of ninth grade at the Upper School.
Some of the ways Gilmour Middle School students thrive through transitions:
- Our Middle School combines the spirit, energy and playfulness of the Lower School environment with the academic rigor and passion of the Upper School.
- Familiarity with Upper School spaces and regular opportunities for social engagement with older peers gets students through adjustment periods quickly, allowing them to focus on the learning process.
- Early enrollment in Upper School math, language, fine arts and science courses engages motivated students with rigorous challenges and provides course credits that average two grade levels above their peer group.
- Daily, student-led Convocation provides the opportunity for reflection and prayer, strengthening community ties and building self-confidence and trust.
