Gilmour Academy is proud to celebrate Luke Peterson ’25, who was recently named a recipient of the Morehead-Cain Scholarship, one of the most prestigious and competitive merit-based scholarships in the country. Awarded by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Morehead-Cain Scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional leadership, academic excellence, character and service.
The Morehead-Cain seeks “leaders with an ability to influence, energize, and inspire others to make an impact.” Each scholar embodies four key pillars: leadership, moral force of character, scholarship and physical vigor. The scholarship is extended by invitation only, with nominees first being selected as the most accomplished student at their respective school or program. Out-of-state candidates of extraordinary caliber may also be identified through the UNC Admissions Referral Program.
With approximately 2,000 nominees each year, applicants undergo several rounds of interviews and assessments before final selections are made. Only 50 to 75 students are awarded the scholarship annually, joining an elite network of scholars with access to unparalleled mentorship, global experiences and leadership development. The scholarship covers the full cost of attendance at UNC-Chapel Hill, including tuition, room and board, and unique summer enrichment opportunities.
This honor places Luke among an exceptional group of future changemakers. Congratulations, Luke!
