Two Gilmour Academy students have recently completed their Eagle Scout projects. Jack Overman '25 and Nathan Lindley '26 both demonstrated leadership, commitment and service to their communities through their extensive projects and years of dedication to scouting.
Jack Overman: Honoring History in South Russell
Jack Overman, a member of Troop 102 in Bainbridge, earned his Eagle Scout rank on September 15, 2024, and was formally inducted during his Court of Honor on February 15, 2025. Beyond earning 31 merit badges and serving his troop in leadership roles, Jack completed a significant Eagle Scout service project intended to preserve local history.
To highlight South Russell Township’s connection to the Interurban Railroad, Jack designed and installed an educational display at South Russell Village Park (1000 Bell Rd, Chagrin Falls, OH 44022). The exhibit details the history of the Cleveland and Chagrin Falls Electric Railway, which operated from 1895 to 1925, linking Cleveland with Garrettsville and Hiram.
At his Court of Honor, Jack reflected on the lifelong impact of scouting:
“Even after reaching Eagle Scout, I’ll have to continue learning and improving myself. It will be hard sometimes … but I know from Scouting that I can always improve with the right mindset. The same goes for the Scout Oath and Law, which I’ll need to use to lead a life of integrity … I’m sure that I’ll face new problems in life that will test me and require new solutions. How I respond to these problems will shape my character and the impact I make on the world.”
Nathan Lindley: Supporting Wildlife on Campus
Nathan Lindley, a Senior Patrol Leader in Troop 620, sponsored by Gesu, recently completed his Eagle Scout project, making a lasting environmental impact right here at Gilmour. Nathan designed and installed a bluebird trail, a series of seven birdhouses stretching across campus from the dorms to the Lower School.
His goal for the project was twofold. He wanted to support native birds by providing safe nesting spaces. Secondly, he wanted to give students an opportunity to see birds and follow them as they nest, lay eggs and raise their young.
Nathan conducted extensive research on birdhouse construction, secured materials and led a team of 15 scouts in building the houses in the CPA scene shop.
Congratulations to Jack and Nathan for their incredible achievements and dedication to service!
