Club Latino and Hearts for Honduras Bake Sale: Supporting Honduran Children and Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15), our community is proud to highlight the collaboration between Club Latino and Hearts for Honduras, one of our service clubs, in their recent Bake Sale. This initiative was not only a celebration of Hispanic culture but also an effort to bring awareness to critical social issues impacting children and families in Honduras. Students baked and sold Latino American sweets representing their culture and sharing some of their Latino cuisine with the GA community.
The proceeds from the bake sale will be donated to Sociedad Amigos de los Niños, a nonprofit organization founded in 1966 by Sister María Rosa Leggol, affectionately known as the Mother Teresa of Honduras. She has been honored with dozens of awards, including two honorary doctorates from Marquette University and the University of St. Francis in Ontario, Canada.
Sister María Rosa dedicated her life to providing housing, safety, health, education, and nurturing care to Honduran children and families at risk. Her legacy continues to make a profound impact on countless lives, and we are honored to support her mission. (www.fhcindiana.org/about-sociedad-amigos-de-los-nios).
We commend Club Latino and Hearts for Honduras for embodying our school’s mission to develop the competence to see and the courage to act in creating a more humane and just society. Their efforts remind us of the power of service, compassion and cultural awareness in making a difference.
