Celebrating Black History Month at Gilmour

As we kick off Black History Month, we’re excited to honor the history, culture and contributions of the Black community through a series of inspiring speakers. This month, we have the special opportunity to hear from Gilmour alumni of color who will share how their experiences at Gilmour shaped their personal and professional journeys. They’ll reflect on how their time here influenced their career paths and how they continue to live out our school’s mission: to develop the competence to see and the courage to act in creating a more humane and just society. Their stories will inspire us to reflect on our own growth and the impact we can make in our communities.

We are also thrilled to welcome Alisha Jones, founder and executive director of the Courtney Jones Cares and Cures Foundation, a nonprofit supported annually by Gilmour’s Black Student Alliance (BSA).  Alisha will speak about the foundation’s mission, its connection to Gilmour’s values and how the funds raised during our Black History Month Dress Down Day will support their important work. She will also share how the foundation’s efforts contribute to building a more just and compassionate world.

We encourage you to join us in celebrating Black excellence this month and to reflect on how each of us can contribute to creating positive change within our communities and beyond.

If you are an alumni of Gilmour Academy and would like to support any of our heritage month celebrations this year or have other contributions that you would like to make to our GA community, please reach out to me at farmerj@gilmour.org.
