Alumni Return to Campus for Junior Career Day

On Thursday, April 25, 10 Gilmour alumni representing class years from 1985-2014 discussed their career paths and experiences with the juniors. Students learned about a variety of careers and were able to ask questions and make potential internship and career connections with fellow Lancers! Thank you to the following alumni for sharing their wisdom with our junior class!

Anthony Scarpo ’07
Wealth Advisor 

Anthony Scarpo earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton, where he majored in English and pre-law. He then graduated with a Doctor of Law degree from Duquesne University School of Law. Anthony is a principal finance advisor at CAPTRUST. Prior to this, he worked at PWA Wealth Management; was an attorney with The Nichols Law Group (where he remains Of Counsel) focused on commercial real estate, oil and gas, corporate and business transactions, contracts and estate planning. 
 
Alexandria Keller ’14
Journalist

Alexandria Keller is a researcher and journalist. Under the mentorship of decorated food historian, Toni Tipton Martin, Keller has studied and perfected her craft with the award-winning author for three years. Together, the two collaborated on Martin’s most recent publication, Jazz Clubs, Juke Joints and Juice, all while Keller was working as an editorial intern at the food multimedia powerhouse, America’s Test Kitchen. 

Today, Keller uses cutting-edge research and storytelling as key ingredients in the work she creates for her own personal brand. She has written multiple articles documenting the achievements of movers and shakers in the minority community, both on her own personal blog and with the national publication, Who’s Who in Black. A music lover, she has interviewed Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee George Clinton, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and more. 

Christine Sabio Socrates ’85
Lawyer

Christine (Tina) Sabio Socrates is a Partner and Chair, Estate Planning and Probate at Meyers, Roman, Friedberg & Lewis. She is a graduate of Boston College where she majored in economics.She then earned her JD from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and received her LLM degree in taxation from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She has more than 25 years of experience in estate planning and probate law representing individuals, married couples, professionals and business owners. 

John Mohorcic ’11
Engineer 

John Mohorcic is an engineer in the manufacturing industry with expertise in controls, quality and digitizing the factory to be smart and secure. John currently oversees quality systems and supplier quality areas. This includes ensuring compliance with registrar requirements and internal QMS, overseeing the audit and APQP activities, management of the corrective action program, and facilitating the advancement of data analytics in the problem solving process. John also has experience in digital transformation, creating an implementation roadmap. He provides real-time analytics and insight of manufacturing and business data so stakeholders can make informed decisions. This data has been presented using platforms such as Python, SQL, and ASP.Net. He has also created LabVIEW and PLC-based control systems for the assembly, verification and test of products. 

Bridgette Garetto-Balmer ’13 
PR Account Executive 

Bridgette Garetto-Balmer has eight years of experience working with consumer brands including Coca-Cola, Simply, Minute Maid, Fairlife, EcoTools, Kmart and Twisted Tea.

Bridgette graduated from Loyola University Chicago, where she majored in public relations and minored in marketing.

From creating an idea around drone deliveries for Coca-Cola’s biggest product innovation in 2021 to launching the first-ever FDA-approved topical form of minocycline, Bridgette is as dynamic as they come. In just a few short years, she has become a sought-after driver in the PR industry on client accounts, which span retail, beauty and skincare, housewares, food and beverage, vitamin and supplements, and pharmaceuticals. 

Bridgette currently serves as the day-to-day client support lead for several household brands under The Coca-Cola Company portfolio. Her recent client work includes the launch of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar’s March Madness campaign, with onsite support at the Women’s Final Four in Cleveland; Coca-Cola’s Olympics campaign launch announcement; and Fairlife’s Core Power creative campaign launch with Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky. She also has other things in the works for Simply and Minute Maid. 

Willson Porter ’93
Pilot 

Willson Porter received his undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University and graduated from the US Navy Aviation Safety Officer School, the US Navy Desert Survival School and the US Navy Mountain Flying School. After serving as the aviation branch head for the Fleet Anti-Submarine Training Center at the US Navy, he is now a utility helicopter pilot at FirstEnergy. 

David Corvi ’03 
Leadership Coach 

David Corvi attended Ithaca College for undergrad and the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education, where he earned a master’s in education. He is currently a leadership coach with the Lynch Leadership Academy out of Boston College. He is also an independent education consultant. 

Michael Steiner ’04
Anesthesiologist 

Michael Steiner pursued his passion for science and sports at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where he majored in biology, minored in acting, and was a four-year letterman for the Statesmen's varsity ice hockey team. Following college, he played professional ice hockey in France for four years. He was then accepted into the Anesthesiologist Assistant Program at Case Western Reserve University's Medical School. For the past nine years, he has been dedicated to providing pediatric and adult trauma anesthesia at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, where he finds the complexity and impact of the work both challenging and deeply rewarding. 

Vanessa Healy ’05
Assistant United States Attorney 

Vanessa Healy is an Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Criminal Division. As an AUSA, Vanessa investigates and prosecutes a full range of federal criminal cases, including firearms offenses, drug trafficking conspiracies, healthcare fraud and other white-collar crime. Prior to becoming a federal prosecutor, Vanessa worked as a litigation associate at Jones Day, in Cleveland, where she focused on white-collar defense. Vanessa represented individuals and corporations in white-collar investigations by the U.S. government, conducted internal corporate investigations related to allegations of fraud and corruption, and counseled clients on ethics and compliance. 

Vanessa received her bachelor’s of degree from Boston College, where she majored in English, and minored in Faith, Peace and Justice. She received her Juris Doctor from Cleveland State University Law School, where she graduated first in her class. After law school, before joining Jones Day, Vanessa spent one year clerking for a federal district court judge in Charleston, West Virginia. 

Therese Roche ’01
Architect

Therese Roche is an associate architect at Bialosky Cleveland. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2005, where she received her degree in architecture and art history. She then earned her master’s in architecture and design from the University of Michigan. She is a 2023 inductee in the GA Sports Hall of Fame - her 300m hurdle record still stands here at GA.
