Celebrating Our Journey at the NAIS People of Color Conference and Student Diversity Leadership Conference

Dear Gilmour Families,

I am thrilled to share the enriching experience of our recent trip to the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) People of Color Conference and Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC), which took place in St. Louis, Missouri. This year’s conference theme, “Gateways to Freedom: A Confluence of Truth, Knowledge, Joy, and Power,” set the stage for a transformative and inspiring exploration of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Our student leaders immersed themselves in a profound exploration of “Bending the Arc Towards Justice.”  With a focus on radical optimism, transformative joy, resilience, and brilliance, they engaged with peers from independent high schools across the country and abroad. Additionally, students delved into self-reflection, allyship, and cross cultural communication, crafting strategies for social justice through both conversations and the arts.

From large group sessions to smaller “family groups” and “home groups,” continuous dialogue and sharing nurtured connections and community building.  Enjoy a glimpse of our journey through photos from our enriching trip as well as our cultural experiences at the Gateway of The Arch and Museum to Cardinal Stadium.

In unity,

JaiCynthia Farmer
